The story of our visit
I arrived half an hour before opening and there was already a line. Yeah, I figured as much. Da Enzo is pretty much a must in Trastevere, except it's in the less chaotic part, where you don't find fifty restaurants crammed next to each other. No reservations, so it's either wait or nothing.
Let's start with the Gricia because I have to say it: damn, what pasta. The guanciale was good, only if it had been a touch crispier we'd be talking pure masterpiece. But I'm talking about minimal details here, because the dish absolutely kills it anyway. Creamy at just the right point, pecorino you can taste but doesn't overshadow everything. The Amatriciana is excellent too, nothing to complain about.
Oh, and the zucchini blossoms. Crispy on the outside, soft inside, generously stuffed. Not like those sad little flowers you find around town where you just taste batter.
The tiramisu wrapped things up nicely at the end. Classic, done right, creamy.
Look, it's packed with foreign tourists and you can tell, but the quality is the real deal. It's not cheap—we're talking about 25 euros per person—but considering where you are and what you're eating, it checks out. Other places with this kind of reputation charge you absurd prices for mediocre food.
The only pain is the queue. But let's say it's worth it. Go before they open, bring some patience, and eat like it's your last meal. Maybe I also got lucky because I didn't wait too long, but I saw people turning back.
Will I go again? Yeah, but I'm getting there earlier.
